DIGS exists to make complex fieldwork easier for the clients who depend on us. We deliver civil, architectural, structural and facility-related construction with disciplined planning, clear communication and professional execution from the first site walk through final restoration.
Clayton CA 94517
Livermore sits on adobe clay. It is heavy, sticky, and it moves. In summer, the soil dries out and cracks open. In winter, rain soaks in and the clay swells. That cycle repeats every year across the Tri-Valley. It is why slabs crack and foundations settle.
We deal with this before you pour a single yard of concrete. Our Excavation & Grading Services in Livermore, CA start with moisture testing. We find out what your soil is doing today, not what a map says it should do.
Then we fix it. Depending on your site, that means over-excavating bad clay, conditioning the soil to the right moisture, or stabilizing it with lime or cement. We replace it with engineered fill and compact it in lifts. Your pad stays stable through wet and dry seasons.
What is in it for you? Fewer cracks. Fewer repairs. A foundation that holds. Whether you’re building in Springtown, Granada Hills, or the 94550 and 94551 zip codes, we build the ground right so your build lasts.
From precision structural excavation to complete underground infrastructure, DIGS provides the expertise and machinery to execute your project safely and efficiently.
Every job follows the same sequence. No shortcuts.
First, we clear and rough grade. Vegetation, debris, and topsoil come off. We balance cut and fill so you’re not paying to haul dirt you don’t need to move.
Second, we set the grade with laser guidance. Pad elevations and drainage slopes are dialed in before the first lift of fill goes down.
Third, we compact the sub-grade. Each lift gets tested. Loose soil is what fails later.
Finally, we finish grade. The pad is smooth, sloped away from the structure, and ready for your foundation crew.
Our Excavation & Grading Contractor team also plans for access. Heavy equipment has to move along the I-580 and Vasco Road corridors, so we schedule deliveries and haul routes around traffic and weather. Working near Highway 84 or Downtown Livermore? We handle tight-site logistics too.
What is in it for you? A clean handoff, a schedule you can trust, and a pad that passes inspection the first time.
A property owner needed a level pad for a new tasting room on a gentle hillside. The soil was heavy adobe clay. We over-excavated the unstable layer, brought in engineered fill, and compacted it in lifts. We added a French drain along the uphill edge. The pad shed winter runoff and stayed dry.
A builder needed a shop pad ready before the rains. The lot had dry, cracked clay near the surface. We stripped it, conditioned the sub-grade, and laser-graded the pad to drain away from the slab. Trucks accessed the site off Vasco Road, so we staged deliveries around rush hour. The foundation crew poured on schedule.

We test moisture first. Then we over-excavate weak clay, condition it, or stabilize it with lime or cement. We rebuild the pad with engineered fill compacted in lifts. Your foundation stays put.
Yes. We help you work through grading permits and drainage requirements, whether your parcel falls under the City of Livermore or unincorporated Alameda County. We follow stormwater and erosion rules on foothill and winery parcels.
It depends on soil, slope, access, and how much material moves. Clay-heavy and hillside sites run higher than flat lots. We give a written estimate after a site visit, with rough and finish grading itemized.
Late spring through early fall. The clay is dry and workable, and we can finish compaction before rain. Winter grading is possible, but wet clay slows work and needs extra drying and stabilization.
Often, yes, especially on hillside or foothill lots. A geotechnical engineer tests the soil and sets the requirements. We build to those specs, including over-excavation depth, fill type, and compaction targets.
